Stay up in Gulmarg, not Tangmarg
Anything advertised as “near Gulmarg” is usually Tangmarg, 13 km below. In deep winter that climb needs a snow-jeep with chains and closes without warning — which can cost you a full ski day.
Your Srinagar sedan cannot make the climb
From December to February you change to a snow-jeep beyond Tangmarg. Budget for it rather than discovering it at the roadblock.
Book the Gondola before you arrive
The Phase 1 ticket queue in January can swallow an entire morning. Book ahead and you ski while everyone else queues.
